The History of Queen Elizabeth Elementary School
Queen Elizabeth School was officially opened on Friday, April 5, 1940. The opening address was given by the Honourable T.D. Pattullo, the Premier of British Columbia at the time. The school was named after the present Queen Mother, Elizabeth. At the opening ceremony the choir sang four selections:
At the Clear Running Fountain
There Stands a Little Man
My Gentle Harp
Land of Hope and Glory
In 1957 the first Kindergarten room in the school was opened with an enrollment of over one hundred. This meant that the teacher had four groups and the pupils came on alternate weeks.
In September 1963 the school enrollment was 690 pupils. many aspects of Queen Elizabeth School life have changed but others such as active parent involvement have continued throughout the years.
